Russell's practice is focused primarily on identifying, obtaining, and protecting the intellectual property rights of his clients, including patent prosecution, trademark prosecution, and conducting freedom to operate and due diligence studies. He has practiced extensively in the areas of computer-implemented methods, computer hardware and software, internet commerce, online advertising, hardware abstraction, virtualization, and cloud computing architectures, virtual machine replication and backup, video surveillance and analytics, digital telephony, and self-organizing mesh networks; medical devices, including laparoscopic instruments, electrosurgical, laser, and microwave ablation systems, surgical navigation systems, patient monitoring systems, and stereotactic radiosurgical systems; industrial and consumer printing systems; barcode and RFID systems; electromechanical systems; and musical instruments and acoustic processing.
PROFESSIONAL BACKGROUND
Mr. Salerno began his career as a software engineer developing algorithms and systems, including the creation of highly-efficient searching algorithms for government intelligence databases, and the first programmable librarian for electronic music synthesizers. After becoming a successful information technology specialist, Mr. Salerno attended law school and became an associate at the intellectual property firm of Pennie & Edmonds, and later worked at the multinational law firm Jones Day. Mr. Salerno has represented clients such as Canon, Leviton, PHD Virtual, Datamax-O’Neil, Covidien AG, and Xerox before the United States Patent and Trademark Office.
